Apartment Scene (Work in Progress)

Hey guys! this is another interior scene that I am currently working on! (I actually realized there are quite a number of 'work in progress' blender works which I haven't able to finish; I think I should actually complete one...at least one)

Anyways, the picture on the bottom shows the basic modeled scene with a background of city with sunset.

Now it's time to add some textures to few of the models.


With the textures, light reacts to the interior scene more realistically and creates this very warm atmosphere scene.

Scene - Hanok 한옥

Hey guys, it seems a while until I post my work. This time it is nothing fancy or anything; I just did a practice with my blender work with an oriental theme (Korean theme because... I am Korean lol). I always wanted to make a scenery about Korea, and this is a first render!


The very first scene is a basic composition that I started with. No materials, yet. I just wanted to see how it looked like when I rendered. Oh and yes, I used LuxRender for the render engine.

I purposely placed a Forest background as majority of the Hanok (Korean traditional houses) are located in the forests, or places where there are lots of trees.


Now, I added a materials to the table and the doors. Now, it starts to look more realistic.

Now, it's time to add some materials to the cups and the pot. I actually took a ceramics class in Seoul National University in Korea for summer course and I learned so much about ceramics and the materials used to make a ceramics. I decided to add a materials with transparent glaze with bit of green colour added to it. 


At this point, I was not satisfied with the composition of the cup. So I tried to see how it looked like when the cup is not placed in the scene. As you can see, it feels... sort of empty.


Therefore, I added the cup but with smaller size, along with a small bowl to fill the space up.
I wanted to add an oriental painting to the cup. So I used a UV Wrapping, mixing with a Node. However UV Wrapping was very complicated. As you can see from the image above, it doesn't really look like a painting.

So after numerous trial and error, I managed UV Wrap the image properly. (Phew)

Final Render
 Depth of Field is always a component which makes the picture more realistic and fancy. So for this scene, I added a Depth of Field.

In conclusion I am satisfied with the final render. However, the Depth of Field scene does not really look very nice. It looks incomplete, and I don't really know what makes it the scene incomplete. If anyone has any advices or suggestions, Suggestions and advices are welcome!

Interior Scene #3 (Work in Progress)

Hey guys! Today I tried to create another interior scene with Luxrender. As I mentioned before Luxrender allows user to create very realistic rendered results compared to cycles.

First, I wanted to test something before going into modeling the interior scene; and that is experiments with lighting.
The image below shows a test that I did with luxrender with sun lamp. As you can see we can see a very clear boundary of shadows created by the windows - and that was what I wanted to test. I was just wondering whether the luxrender lighting actually allows that kind of light interaction with the modeling, and luckily it does.

Now, once I am done with the lighting test, it's time to model the interior scene! I decided to make the interior simple with lots of windows - since that's what I wanted to include in this interior scene.



Looks cool so far! However the interior seems too small in terms of width. So I think it's a good idea to increase the width just a little bit.

With the increased width, the scene looks much better - there is more space for the shadows to cover up the space plus, I think it is good idea to make the room spacious for this interior experiment.

Since now I am done with basic modeling, of the interior, it's time for add some textures into the scene!

Wow! With the textures on the floor, the interior scene looks more realistic! (At least for the floor)
Now, it's time to add more textures: the Ceiling.

 Now, with the texture added to the ceiling, the interior starts to look more fancy! 
At this point, I decided to alter the sun lamp slightly, increasing the amount of 'turbidity' - which seems to control the amount of dust could be seen from the sun light (or.. maybe not)

 As we can see, the interior scene actually looks quite hazy (it could be the noise to due to short rendering time). Also we can discover that the colour scheme of the scene actually changed into warmer colour - there seems to be more of the yellow and warm colour palette added to the whole scene, which I think is pretty nice.

Now since we are quite done with the lighting as well (Although we are going to come back to tweak small bits and pieces later,) I think something has to be done to the scenery outside the window; So far it looks really empty.

Therefore I decided to add something that I have not yet tried before; Add a tree!

Adding a tree was actually not that hard! I discovered that there was a tree generator plugin for blender, which could generate trees with adjustable branches and leaves. So I installed the plugin after downloading the python file, and able to generate one tree!

Now I decided to add few more trees to the scene.

 Looking good! Now, I think it's time to fill up the missing parts of the exterior scenery.
I decided not to focus too much on the scenery outside since I want to focus more with the interior scene.

 Now, it's time to tweak the sun light once more. I decided to make the overall environment, a warm and spring-like atmosphere.

Ah... makes me want to sleep actually. At this point I realized that I haven't sincerely thought of adding a texture to the wall! Therefore I decided to add a wall texture!

 Hmm...after putting the texture in, I was actually not satisfied with the visual effect created with the texture. So I removed it.

SNU Dormitory

Another Interior Scene! Yes! I was wondering what I should do for my interior rendering and I thought I should just render my table in Seoul National University Dorm.

Basic Composition Modeling
This is the basic table composition. Now I started to add few objects onto the table.

It was also very difficult experience to model a paper. As you can see, when you look closely to the paper, the paper does not seem realistic.

After adjusting few materials and textures, I produced my final result:


And I added a glare node for the lamp with compositing node.

In conclusion, I am actually pretty satisfied with the outcome. There seems to be few things I could do more to make it better, but I don't really know what that is at the moment. Perhaps in the future, I could develop it further to make it better.
